Why would it rev up but not accelerate

I own a 1988 Ford Bronco 2 Eddie Bauer edition
with a 2.9 L 4 x 4 fuel injection. I could be driving it
and I go to give it gas why would it rev up but not
accelerate

Heck Transmission fluid to see if it’s low. If it hasn’t been changed in 4-5 years. I would consider getting a new filter and flush the transmission.
