Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1988 Toyota Tercel and it won’t idle and it’s
a pain to start I have to constantly feather it to keep
it alive And when you take off it hops up and down
before it goes. I’ve adjusted the idle screws multiple
times no effect It’s also a stick shift

Ok seems like your carbs are playing up or you have either an intake leak or vacuum leak. Best way to figure out is by spraying starter fluid around carb and see if it idles up (If it does you either have intake or vacuum leak) take a note of where and what angle you then can pin point area of fault.

If you that and nothing happens spray a little (very small amount of carb cleanerinto the carb and see if it idles up for a second. Then you know your carb is acting up you can either clean or rebuild it
