I have a 1996 Dodge Dakota 4 wheel drive and I rit also backfires unit actually just ran out of gas I hold the pedal down let it roll sometimes your fire backup and sometimes it won't it will just die

computer or the coil or the
timing changes because stretch
today finding different Signils to
the computer  to turn it on auto
shut off relay off

dakotas are weird. the pickup tube in.the gas tank.is in the back. when its real low on gas coming to a stoo it will die. then start again or it will sputter and come back to life. this isnt good for your should be obvious. keep a 1/4 tank in it all the timefuel.pump. the backfiring
