Climate control on a 2013 Dodge Journey

Asked by LouRamey May 18, 2015 at 08:28 PM about the 2013 Dodge Journey R/T AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The passenger side of the climate control does not lower the temp. The display numbers come down, but the air coming out is always hot. The drivers side works well, even with the AC.

Right side blend door actuator stuck/ or actual blend door is broke. Dodge / jeep have had this problem. Contact dealer about TSB 's on your vehicle about this problem. May require dash removal to repair. Skill level 8 - 9.5 out of 10 possibly, Dodge / Jeep know there is a problem!

I was able to replace this with a new one from autozone. It took a while to get the screws out. I had to use a ratchet and a Phillips head bit. I orginally thought it was a trox screw. You have to remove the glovebox and the panel underneath. I had only hot air coming out of the passenger side.

Sounds like the right blend cool air actuator is inoperative. There are three nylon gears inside this actuator and one of them strips leaving the valve in the hot position. Very easy fix remove the glove box by just lowering the door and popping it out no screws to remove for door. Under the glove box door there is a piece of carpet with two fasteners remove them with a pair of needle nose pliers. Just in front of the console the valve is sitting on the right side. The air duct has to be removed to get access to the actuator it is held in by three tabs the top outside one can be pushed to release the duct the other two tabs will release by jiggling the duct and pulling out. Two screws hold the actuator to the valve which can be removed with a #2 phillip's stubby screw driver.
