2013 chevy equinox immobilizer?

Asked by BrianfromBrighton Nov 22, 2020 at 01:33 PM about the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox 2LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was changing rotors & pads, and I had keyed-up the vehicle to place in
neutral. When I was done with one side, I noticed that the car was not
responsive. I was able to move gear selector to park, but key won't release
from key cylinder. The car appears totally dead. The interior lights won't even
come on. Did I trip the immobilizer, or some other root cause? I have
disconnected the battery and am charging it directly to the battery terminals.

Sounds like a dead battery. If the battery is more than 3 years old or is original to the vehicle, replace it. You should have put the ignition key in the off position to prevent the battery from draining. With the transmission in neutral the key would not have been able to be removed. But you can put it in the off position. Hope that helps! Jim

Thanks. I was able to restore the vehicle's function after charging the battery for a few hours. The fact that it went dead so quickly probably indicates that it is time for a new battery. The present battery is 8 years old and the Equinox has over 100K miles on it, so I guess I got my money's worth out of it. Thanks again. Brian-from-Brighton
