Driving 101 miles with no oil in Tahoe - harmed or not harmed?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 2013 Chevy Tahoe (with motor oil) - took it in for service to
Monument Chevy - the technician discovered a plug was oil fouled in
cylinder #7 - per the service advisor, they "filled all cylinders with top engine
cleaner to remove carbon build up from piston rings to prevent sticking &
excessive oil consumption."   When I got he Tahoe back, after driving it about
101 miles, my check engine light came on -- then minutes thereafter, the red
oil lamp came on.  I checked oil level-- NONE?  Took it to another mechanic -
- he wrote that there was no oil prior to service.  My question is - is there a
possibility that the Tahoe has been damaged within the motor?  Monument
will not provide a loaner.  Tahoe is running rough.

No oil for even 1 mile would ruin a engine. If you made it 101 miles it was not totally out of oil. I would demand a new engine but you may need to have another mechanic tear the engine down and prove the damage. Ask for complete documentation that will hold up in court. How many miles on the engine?

They will argue the engine is worn out. A full engine tear down showing damage from lack of oil is probably the only way to get money out of them. You may need to sue.

You ruined it because you failed to check the oil. Monument did not service it (change oil and filter) they just decarboned it and they would not have checked to oil to do that.

That is where you are completely wrong -- thankfully for the Ring cameras - which I checked for accuracy -- went back 60 days - and it shows me checking oil on all the cars once every 3 weeks -- and it also shows no oil being added to the Tahoe -- so someone screwed up but yes - a lawsuit will be filed - there are other people that have been wronged by that dealership -- the sad part of it - elderly folks that just accept it and have no one to help them go against Monument.
