Clean Title vs Lien, is there a difference?

Asked by Francisco May 26, 2020 at 02:48 PM about the 2005 Ford Thunderbird 50th Anniversary Edition RWD

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

Your site shows a check mark for title green check but when I pulled the Auto
Check report, it shows a lien.

I would contact Autocheck to see what is correct.

When a vehicle is financed and paid off the title is released to the owner. However this is not reported to the State DMV. So in the DMV records the lien still shows up. For example, I paid off my Grand Marquis in 2012 but if you run a vehicle history report on the vehicle it will show there's still a lien on it. That's because I refuse to go to DMV and show them my clear title. I don't feel that's my job! It should be done by the finance company, in my opinion! I doubt that a 2005 model still has a lien on it unless it was last purchased in the past few years. I'd ask the seller directly about it. Hope that helps! Jim

A lien is not a title cloud like an accident.
