I have a 2013 Chevy Traverse never had much problems at all with it. I drove it today and it shut off with an issue with the battery, I knew right away that it was the alternator. I had it checked out and it is the alternator, I purchased a new one. With the very cold temperature and me being on my way home from the doctor already, I plan on doing this tomorrow morning, my problem is that its parked in a parking lot. Do I need to take the passenger side tire off , and the wheel well as to better be able to get to the alternator and the tension pulley?

It is possible to remove it with the tire on but removing the tire will give more room to work. Be sure to disconnect the positive cable from the battery. Also make sure the battery is fully charged. A weak battery can damage your new alternator.

Just had my Alternator replaced and he just removed a few things on top to extract the old one and replaced it. Took about half hour to 45 minutes
