Whats happening to my Sonata?

Asked by Jenniferkp Aug 02, 2019 at 08:55 PM about the 2013 Hyundai Sonata SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So long story short I replaced the battery of
my 2013 Hyundai Sonata and the only issue I
had was the battery light that was on. Dumb
of me to not look further into it and my radio
wasn’t working. On my way home from work,
all the lights on the dash just started to flash
and my gas pedal started to lock on me. The
steering wheel locked up and thank god I
made it home without any damage to myself
or my car. Also when I turned off the car after
I came home it stalled, I don’t know what to
do and I’m very lost. Please help!

It sounds like the alternator isn’t charging the battery. You basically managed to get home on the power left in the battery. It’s probably a failing alternator but could be something else in the charging system. A loose belt tensioner can also hamper alternator function.
