Sonic coolant leaking

Asked by Georgia Feb 06, 2022 at 05:04 PM about the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic LT Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I need help!! I have a 2013 Sonic, and it seems like constant problems for the
past couple years - I had a water pump install in May 2021, a thermostat in
June, and a radiator & cooling fan in October, and now they tell me I have a
coolant oil leak, and they weren't able to tell me what's needed yesterday, just
that it's bad - if I get that leak-stop product will that fix it, and for how long?

Please don't use the Stop leak products, they are only temporary. I would find another honest mechanic and or garage. It sounds like they might be taking you for a ride, aka lying to make money. Saying it is just bad and coolant oil, is an indication they are talking down to you and making it up. Cooling system parts should be replaced at the same time in some vehicle, but it sounds like you go that sorted, just over time.

look around the engine and radiator for leaks above and underneath. if all is dry then there is no problem. also watch the coolant reservoir for level. it should have a little level of fluid.
