Easy to remove running boards

Asked by steveNH777 Nov 09, 2012 at 05:25 PM about the 2013 Kia Sorento EX AWD

Question type: General

My 2013 Sorento came with running boards. We don't like them because it's harder to get out of the car. Is it easy and straightforward to remove them. Any hiiden alligators?

Yes and no. It is pretty easy to remove, they more or less pull out breaking the retaining clips and are held on by a few screws on the ends as well as some 2 sided tape. the problem is that you'll be left with the holes for the retaining clips and a space where the running board had touched and destroyed the exterior trim panels that will require purchasing I believe like 6 different panels (3 on each side)

Is it possible to buy something to cover up the holes and the opening where the running board was? Like maybe putting some sticky silver strip over it?

I’m going through this right now with my 2021 Telluride I purchased.. I didn’t like the running boards on them so when I got home I removed them.. I had installed them on my Chevy a couple times so didn’t think it was a big deal.. as someone stated above you will need a rocker panel to cover the felt and holes that are left once running boards are removed.. come to find out it’s over $400 a side just for the panel.. I couldn’t believe how much it was just to remove these things! I Ended up just putting them back on for now.

I found a store online called AutoAnything where the rocker panels are very affordable along with everything else car related. They sell the rocker panel kits that includes everything for both sides. I have a 2012 Kia Sorento and I paid $118 (free shipping) for my rocker panels. Check it out!
