Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I Feel I am being taken advantage
of and mislead. I have a 2013
chevy Malibu it was in an
accident almost total loss over
8,000 in repairs from progressive
a few months later check engine
light came on it was code P0411
which of course was not a part
that was repaired. So we pay out
of pocket in full to replace. Not
even 2 weeks later check engine
light came back on and took it
back to dealership to be
diagnosed and it was the same
code we already paid to be
repaired, now not even a week
later the check engine light came
back on again with the same
code. And they are saying it's
something else making it
malfunction no different code but
they went a typed out a paper
with like 30 gaskets to have fixed,
30 bolts, just one word listed as
pipe...nothing Pacific just all one
words with different quantities.
Like head, then gasket listed 9
times with different quantities
next to it , seal listed a bunch with
different quantities listed next to
them, bolt several times with
different quantities listed next to
them as well and seal kit (2) of
them..im so frustrated and
stressed.9 months pregnant and
have a 1 1/2 year old son..i feel
like something isn't right

You have a problem with the air injection system (smog device) Maybe it was damaged in the accident but that is hard to tell. If you are not getting the information you want then ask for specifics from your mechanic. https://www.obd-codes.com/p0411

Check your emissions system warranty. Maybe you still have coverage.

There is a factory service bulletin that recommend reprogramming the ECM to resolve that problem. Before replacing any other parts, you should contact your local dealer or shop and check if your vehicle already has the later ECM program.....P0411 CHEVROLET - Secondary Air Injection System Insufficient Flow...Possible causes; Vacuum hoses damaged or pinched, Faulty Air Pump inoperative, Faulty Air Pump harness is open or shorted, Faulty Air Pump circuit poor electrical connection....The powertrain control module (PCM) activates the AIR system by simultaneously supplying grounds to the AIR pump and the AIR valve relays. This action closes the relays' internal contacts. The AIR pump and the AIR control solenoid valve/pressure sensor assembly are in turn energized, the pump runs and the control/shut-off valve opens. The AIR pump sends pressurized fresh air into the pipes/hoses through the open control/shut-off valve, and into the exhaust manifold. The extra air accelerates the catalyst operation, helping it to reach operating temperature faster. The AIR pump remains ON for a short period of time after the control/shut-off valve is commanded OFF. When the AIR pump is commanded OFF it will not run or be activated until the next vehicle start. When the AIR system is inactive, the closed AIR control/shut-off valve prevents air/exhaust flow in either direction... I think I would check with another garage for a second opinion. Hope this helps..

Thank you so much for the detailed and descriptive answer....it definitely helped may I ask if it is a service bulletin, and we do not have the newer/updated ECM would that be something the dealership pays for or would we be obligated to the cost? Plus with this types of list of non specific gaskets listed and it is like 30 different ones, deals non specific, etc does a chevy even have that many gaskets and if so when they run a diagnosis wouldn't codes for those come up if they are faulty..thank u again Show quoted text

The code thing for the gaskets, well you have to interpret that into the diagnostic code, (s) whether to change them or not. The info I gave you on the ECM is just information, that there is a factory service bulletin on the programming of the ECM. Not a recall.
