Brake Flush

Asked by klm18 May 05, 2016 at 03:38 PM about the 2013 Porsche Boxster Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Has 3,400 miles. Being told that it needs brake flush based on number of years. How vital is this considering the low miles? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

OH BROTHER.......Brake fluid should be replaced if the fluid is dirty or if the brake system shows any evidence of rust or corrosion. http://repairpal.com/estimator/porsche/boxster/brake-fluid-flush- cost

Brake fluid should be replaced if the fluid is dirty or if the brake system shows any evidence of Rust or corrosion. I don't think so that's very low miles! Sounds like someone is trying to burn you since they know you have the money. Is your brake working properly. You should have a break lite on your dash if your low on break fluid.

Thanks!! This hasn't been looked at to verify if fluid is dirty / rust / corrosion. In your opinion, based solely off miles, am I good. Should I hold off on this svc?

3 year old Porsche with very expensive brake parts likely needs the fluid replaced. Performance cars with moisture in the brake fluid is not good. The moisture will lower the boiling point of the brake fluid and make the brakes less effective during performance driving. The moisture will also corrode parts in the system. Remember a Porsche is not like a normal everyday vehicle. I would have it replaced every 2 or 3 years on that car. It is not so much the miles, but it is the length of time the fluid is in the vehicle.

The only difference is I would do my own flush rather than take it to the dealership. Replacing the fluid is cheap insurance, I'll bet an ABS brake unit on a Porsche is several thousand dollars.

Good read on Porsche brake fluid changing and properties of brake fluid at the link.....http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_5/Brake_Fluid_Q_A.html

Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years regardless of mileage. Moisture and dirt in the system could shorten the life and performance of your brake components. Its easy to do yourself and the Pentosin DOT 4 fluid costs under $20

Its called preventative maintenance. Its to keep your brake system in top working order. Just remember stoping is more important than going fast.
