Battery Light and Shifting

Asked by Sadie Dec 30, 2015 at 04:53 PM about the 2001 Dodge Caravan Sport FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The battery light has been coming on lately
on my dodge van and just yesterday my
boyfriend brought me to work in it my work
destination is about 45 miles away from
home and anyways we go into the town
where I work and the battery light came on
and so he shut the van off and turned it
back on and then boom 10 minutes later it
does it again so we repeated the above
step well he dropped me off and work and
took off and then told that it died on the
way home and he had to be jumped in
order to get it to turn on again but he also
said it stopped shifting too but now it's
shifting again idk he's not being very
helpful and it's slightly pissing me off
(excuse my language) anyways I'm just
wondering what you think it might be,
alternator or battery or something else?

Sounds like the alternator not charging, That can be tested on or off the car. The car was just running off of the battery until it got run down, no power to run the electrical stuff on the engine. So it quits. Getting a jump puts a slight charge back into the battery so it would run for a little bit.
