Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Moms 2012 Honda CRV started making a nasty noise today. It sounds like you are
dragging something underneath it but up front mainly. I looked under it and there is a
metal plate about the middle of the car where two of the bolts came out or was dragged
across something when I wasn't with her. Is this something that is serious and is going to
cost a lot of money? Thank you in advance for your help!

Depending on the mileage and/or the condition of the brakes, it might be time time for brake pads. If the brakes are fine, it could be a stone stuck in between the back of one of the brake rotors and the backing plate/dust shield. Most of the time the stone wears down and falls out. Otherwise. a shop can determine the cause of the noise very quickly and provide a remedy.

I took it to the Honda dealership and they took it off, and said it was a plate that covers the oil pan. They also said a lot of the new cars have plates from front to back and they remarked that they thought it was ridiculous. Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it!

A screw that holds the cover plate fell out and the plate started hanging on wheel stops in parking lots. Before I found the problem, I asked the service person at the Honda dealership to check it out and they found nothing. Simple fix for me to replace screw myself.

I have a 1991 Honda CRV with over 240,000 miles on it. I was at a stop sign the other night and when I started to drive I heard a pshhhh sound . (Like a decompression) and then it sounded like something rubbing like my brake pads rubbing so I figured it was my brake line that either exploded or broke or just came off so I took the tire off and checked all my brakes they were fine so then I drove it around and there is no more noise or anything wrong with it. Then I let it sit for a couple hours and then when I drove it around again it sounded like I was dragging something but I could have sworn those noise came from the back what could it be?
