Exterior Paint on the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Asked by Ocake Nov 07, 2018 at 04:13 PM about the 2002 Dodge Dakota 4WD

Question type: General

I have noticed several grey 2002 Dodge Dakota's on the road that looks like my
husbands.  There must be something wrong with the paint that year.  They all
look in need of a paint job.  His Dodge look horrible!  Today he mentioned that
he was embarrassed to park it on lots.  People may think it is abandon.  What is
the deal?

This is a common problem and not just with Dodge's. Your problem is probably a failing clear coat. All you can do is repaint the car.

My uncle had an older dodge the clear coat failed on, the dealership repainted it at their cost. They give it a very light wet sand, mask it off and reshoot the clear. You don't have to take it down to bare metal or reshoot the color coat. (This is assuming your problem is the same thing.)

I have my doubts that a dealer will repaint a 17 year old truck but you could try. The cars/trucks I have seen have oxidized paint under the failed clear coat but if you could catch it early a new clear coat would look a lot better.

Yeah I overlooked the age of the vehicle, lol.
