I copied a piece from the internet on how to take your car out of park by bypassing shift lock if you try this the next time it does that and it goes out of gear you have a faulty break switch witch tells the shift lever to unlock. there is a better terminology for that but thats the easy way to say it.. hope this helps Shift lock release using the shift lock release button Apply the parking brake and stop the engine. Remove the shift lock cover using a flat-head screwdriver. While depressing the brake pedal, insert the electronic parking brake release tool into the hole, press the shift lock release button using the tool, and then move the select lever.

Said "tool" is a thin chopstick, pencil, nail file, etc. A VERY common problem is that this release assy gets contaminated with congealed sugar syrups from crappy coffee or drinks. So best remove the ENTIRE plastic cover (it's easy), and look in there for old food and gooey stickiness. Clean out, then watch the assy work as you exercise it with the brake and shift selector dance repeatedly to test. Pop the cover on and you're done. PS: do NOT be tempted to eat the old french fry in there!
