2012 Honda Pilot LX

Asked by dieselvw Jun 26, 2016 at 04:52 AM about the 2012 Honda Pilot LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2012 Honda Pilot LX. The car was in excellent condition and the other day I was driving going 55 mph and noticed the engine shaking. But, the shaking went away quickly. As I pulled into my garage at an idle, it started shaking again. It is in the dealer's shop right now with a p0301 code misfire. The dealership immediately said "Oh you must have gotten bad gas somewhere." I did fill up the day prior to this, but they blame the gas and do not even mention that there was a class action lawsuit about the VCM in these cars. While waiting to hear back, what can I do to protect myself incase they charge me for a whole new engine and refuse to cover the costs? It has less than 60,000 miles on it.

A VCM is a tool used to provide solutions for vehicle system applications. All VCMs employ a microprocessor controller coupled with a solid state 12 volt (or 24 volt) 15 amp power switch to provide a completely solid state smart relay. With a variety of module programs to choose from, we provide a wide range of functionality. Designers of vehicle electrical control systems can utilize VCMs to solve many problems in simple, affordable manner. VCMs are designed to withstand the environments typically found on trucks, emergency vehicles, buses, coaches, and specialty vehicles. Please see the sidebar for a list of current VCM types. So the VCM controls things like remote door locks, seat settings, light settings etc. and any electrical functions of the vehicle other than the engine. The engine is controlled by the ECU. The ECU would be picking up the po301 code. So...P0301 HONDA - Cylinder Number 1 Misfire Detected- Possible causes - Faulty spark plug 1 - Clogged or faulty fuel injector 1 - Faulty ignition coil 1 - Fuel injector 1 harness is open or shorted - Fuel injector 1 circuit poor electrical connection - Ignition coil 1 harness is open or shorted - Ignition coil 1 circuit poor electrical connection - Insufficient cylinder 1 compression - Incorrect fuel pressure - Intake air leak........ A po300 code would be a random misfire, all of the above apply plus if you had gotten some bad gas, in-witch you could put some product into your gas like Sea Foam, or such. I would investigate what is going on with the VCM's on these vehicles, but is not the cause of the way your engine is running. I hope this helps.....

VCM - variable cylinder management. It has everything to do with the engine and nothing to do with the interior lights, seats or door locks. You are doing everyone a disservice by rambling on about everything but the issue. It is obvious you don't know anything about Honda VCMs. If you don't know, don't answer. A 1 minute internet search reveals the huge VCM problem with Honda V-6s.
