Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 Dodge caravan is having symptoms: rough idle, what sounds & feels like
misfire, sputtering at idle. I suspect distributor cap since car has 190K miles
and I don't think cap has ever been replaced. How do i check cap to see if bad
before I go out and buy one?

Replace it and see. Caps are not very expensive.

That makes sense for misfires, it's easy to do and needs to be replaced anyway

If the cap is that old the plug wires are too. Replace them while you are at it.

And the spark plugs for a complete tune up. Hope that helps! Jim

2005 does not have a dist cap it has coil paks, witch go bad, determin what cly is mis fireing and change that coil.you can verify that its the coil pak by pulling that plug wire off and putting a spark plug in it and starting it up and see if its sparking.
