2004 Escape sport rack

Question type: General

I have a 2004 Escape XLT with the special luggage rack that has a section that slides from the roof over the back door and locks into place in two spots on the top of the rear bumper. When I bought it, I assumed the slideable section was meant to attach a bike rack. After exhaustive searches I have found nothing that mounts to that portion of the rack that slides. What is Fords intended purpose for that section? Does anyone know of attachments that connect to that part of the rack. I am especially interested in being able to mount bicycles to the back of the escape without using a hitch mounted rack and without wrapping multiple straps around the rear door. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I had the same vehicle with that sliding rack, I thought the same but could not find anything however I work in a machine shop and designed and built my own clips that clicked into place on that middle rack to which I could mount two bicycles too. You could try that at a local machine shop in your area.

Yakima makes a universal mount that will attach to the rack system that will allow you to attach a rack to the truck. I did some research and found that this is the easiest and cheapest. Yakima also sells one that will attach OEM style. About $100. There called Universal Mightymounts Part #03590. The rack I am not sure of the name but I know that Yakima makes it. Hope that helps.
