Incorrect transmission fluid used

Asked by Kaveeth Sep 02, 2016 at 11:40 AM about the 2012 Ford Escape XLS AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My dealer has used AC Delco dexron vi instead of
Mercon LV on my Ford Escape 2012 xls 2.5L.
Now it's been around 8 month and running
smoothly and no issues, but I'm afraid it may
cause any troubles in future.
Please someone give me a professional idea to
solve this issue, is it OK to drain it fully and put
Mercon LV or is there any other solution?what
about the filter inside the transmission,
Thank you very much

Mercon LV is not compatible with Dexron VI and vise versa. I would have the transmission fluid replaced with the proper fluid. You could be asking for problems leaving it in. I would have insisted the dealer change the fluid to the proper fluid when they first made the mistake. They are not likely to correct the issue at no cost to you after 8 months. You won't be able to drain all the fluid due to the torque converter not having a drain plug so the fluid needs to be removed by a machine that can replace fluid on the fly.

Thanks Bob, really appreciate your answer, so I need to flush them all by the use of a machine and replenish with mercon LV,
