Alternator 2001 Toyota Solara

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi. I have a 2001 Toyota Solar with 158,000
miles well maintained but it keeps going
through alternators. 4 went out each year
for 4 years still under warranty but it’s out
now at 2 years so it’s not covered. It is a
Toyota alternator not an aftermarket. I also
have the best Interstate battery so that’s
not it either. I’ve had 2 reliable repair shops
look also and they can’t figure it out. I
spoke to the Toyota service dept. and they
can do a diagnostic for 100.00 and then
start checking the electrical system for no
telling how much? I’ve already had a
diagnostic done. That’s how I know it’s my
alternator. Does anyone have any ideas or
may know what’s going on? Thanks.

Do you have a sub/amp? If so do you have a capacitor for it? Toyota tends to build their alternators very well and usually overrated for the appplication also so its odd youve gone through so many. It would be cheaper for them to figure out the issue for free than to keep giving you alternator under warranty by the sounds of it

They’ve tried everything they can think of and have asked everyone they know and nobody can figure it out. They told me they just didn’t want to keep putting new ones on there and this one I’ll have to pay for. I’ve taken very good care of my car and there is absolutely nothing else wrong but this. I’m retired and have limited funds and I love my car so I’m hoping someone will know what to do.
