just got my first Subaru what should I do first?

Asked by Hobohideout Oct 29, 2013 at 01:34 AM about the 2008 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Premium Package

Question type: Car Customization

I just got a 2008 subaru impreza. 70.000 miles. I want to make it faster  looking into chips
seemed to be the best and easiest solution.  I honestly don't know much about cars and
don't really know how to educate myself either.I would love some opinions and
experiences to feed from.

Thanks

Go to your local bookstore or online and buy a "Chilton's" repair manual for the make, model and year of the auto. Subaru's are great vehicles and we are on our 7th (each with 200K before we sold or traded in). but they are expensive when it comes time to do scheduled maintenance. There are many online offers for "speed and body parts" so have fun but check the background of anyone you purchase from first.

There really isn't much of an option for making a 2.5i faster than it already is. If you're looking to modify a Subaru, you'd probably want to start with trading that in for an Impreza WRX or STI.

Your subaru is no less tunable than any other N/A (normally aspirated) car. A good place to start would be a simple intake/exhaust combo if you are looking for a slight HP and torque increase. All in all the best advice I can give you is to start small and see if it's a path you are willing to follow. Before the WRc came to U.S there were plenty of mods for this engine, just research the 99-00 Impreza 2.5 RS. I have met plenty of people eho have made those cars very fast.
