nissan altima 2011 battery issues

Asked by ShaleeSchmidt Oct 02, 2015 at 09:56 PM about the 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My battery died last night. replaced it. was running fine.
I decided to clean the leftover corrosion on the terminal ends and the bar that
holds the battery in place. Poured Coke on it. Sprayed it off with water. Few
minutes later I tried to start the car. It did a short machine gun sound and then
like an old tv, it made a quick zip sound to nothing. No lights. No sound. No
turning over. What have I done?

You created a short, no telling what damage its done. Did you dry off the top of the battery before trying to start it? Also you are suppose to use baking soda and water to neutralize the corrosion.

Well hold on and see if any one else has an idea for you to check, but you know that old TV sound when they go out, not good.

Yeah, the water acted as a conductor between both the posts. I would start pulling fuses one by one and checking them. Especially the big 30 amp ones under the hood. If you blew that big one, it will not allow the engine to turn over.
