Electrical Problem

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought my truck used with 172xxx miles
right after the dealership put a Jasper 5.4L
V8 motor in the truck. I bought it in the fall
before it started to get cold. As soon as it
started to get cold, maybe November, I was
on the way to work (running a couple minutes
behind so I needed to drive a little faster) and
pulling out of my neighborhood I get the
check engine light, parking brake light, ABS
light, and TPS sensor dash light all at the
same time. I pulled over to check the truck all
around and couldn’t find anything and didn’t
affect how it drove at all. After a day I
replaced the fuse and it was fine for a few
days then did it again, waited a few days and
did it again, and again. Over the span of the
next few weeks I left it, and eventually started
noticing features that weren’t working.
Reverse lights, backup sensors, cruise
control, and AC don’t work. I replace the fuse
and they’re all fine, until it blows again. I’m
not much of an electrical guy and really don’t
want to start tearing the dash apart to try to
find a chafed wire shorting out. Has anybody
else had this problem? Could it have
something to do with the motor being
swapped? I talked to the dealership about it
and they said anything they’ve done
shouldn’t have anything to do with the
problem. But I’m skeptical.

The broken or corrosion could be in the engine compartment. Pull a wire diagram and follow the wires. Do a visual inspection first. It could be easier than you think. Clean up any corrosion green crusties and clean all ground wires. I would also look at any wire harnesses that are around the engine or any hot surface. Suspect any wiring with black electrical tape as someone may have tried doing a repair when putting in engine. Could have pulled a wire loose.

Jasper warrants their engines. The dealership should warrant the installation. Maybe something was damaged or faulty during the engine installation. If the dealership doesn't want to determine what the problem is you'll either have to pay them to find our or go to an outside garage.
