Question type: Maintenance & Repair

air compressor is off and can't put in refrigerant

The compressor has to be running to add R134a...so first things first. Get the compressor running. Maybe something as easy as the clutch..then be concerned about adding refrigerant. Low refrigerant will not cause it to not run if that's what you are thinking

On the 1993 Cadillac Eldorado 4.9 l you disconnect the low side pressure switch connector, then take a paperclip open it up completely fold it in half, take the connector and plug the paperclip into both holes in the connector switch plug. Now start the vehicle put the air conditioner on the coldest setting turn the fan on high and when you go out to compressor should be running at all times. Then you start adding the freon to the low side.

One thing I forgot to mention if the compressor is off on the 93 Eldorado 4.9 l what you have to do is disconnect the batteries negative on the battery for 25 seconds then reconnect that will reset the compressor. The compressor will automatically shut off if the freon gets loads to help not burn up the compressor.

If anyone wants to know how to properly turn on the air compressor that has shut itself off due to low Freon or whatever shut it off. What you want to do is press the hot and off button on your climate control on the dash you press the hot button and the off button at the same time press them in your dash will light up you release the buttons. Then you hit the down button on the fan control and what will show up first when you hit the down button on the fan control will be PCM? Hit the down button one more time and the letters i p c? Will show up hit it one more time and the letters ACP? will show up when that shows up you hit the up button on the fan control and you'll see ACP data? When you see that hit the down button on the fan control three times until you see the words ACP clear codes? When you see that hit the up button on the fan control just one time and when you do it will say ACP codes clear then it will automatically go to another set of words that say ACP snapshot? When that happens hit the off button 4 times and that will shut off the diagnostics for the car and then you start the car and hit the auto button and put the fan on high and go out there and start putting your freon on because you'll see that the AC clutch is now turning and if it starts cycling too much because there's not enough freon in it then you take the low side pressure switch control plug out and put a paperclip in the two holes and that will keep the compressor running constantly but I only do this when you are ready have the freon and ready to go in. then you just follow the instructions on how to put the freon in from there. Now when you first get in the car to clear the AC compressor code you turn the put the keys and turn the ignition 2 X forward and then continue with the way I told you to by hitting the hot button and off button on the climate control at the same time and then follow the instructions I gave you from there. I hope this helps anybody out.
