Cigarette lighter fuse

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Found my burned fuse on my 2005 bmw! (20amp)
Replaced it! And it worked! I plugged in my phone
charger and it blew out again 2min later! So I
changed it again! Now it’s working but I have to
hold down my charger so it will charge! After a while
of holding it down trying to get it to work! It smelled
a little burnt! So I went to go check my fuse in my
trunk again and fuse is still good! Not sure what it
might be!? Any suggestions!?  Yes I’m still using
same number amp! “20”

That sounds like an overload. Normally a phone charger barely takes a couple amps and should not be blowing a 20 amp fuse. All those amps have to be going somewhere. Is the charger getting red hot? Anything catch fire yet? I would replace the charger before something happens. (Don't use a higher amp fuse.)

I believe it should be a 30a fuse. At least that's what's in a 2001 e39 540i. Try that! If it smokes the wires, you didn't hear it from me.
