My 2010 Mini Cooper S has had 3 thermostats replaced since I've owned the car (less than a year). Mini knows their is something wrong with certain Mini's. The check engine light stays on and only goes off a day or so at a time. The car has been fully checked and no one knows why the engine light stays on. After some research, is it possible for a bad wire that is attached to the engine light. I really don't know what to do. I don't want to spend anymore money on this car!

Get a scan tool and see which code is showing up. It could be that you are throwing an unrelated intermittent code. Additionally, it's time to figure out why the thermostats fail or if they are the root cause. There was a recall on the cooling system in 2012. Did you have that service performed?

mine had a bad cooling fan causing the engine to get too hot and causing the thermostat to stay locked open. fail safe thermostat will stay locked open if overheated. make sure your cooling fan works properly !!!!!!
