Car Does Not Lock by Remote

Asked by Seanic Jan 19, 2015 at 08:12 PM about the 2010 Honda CR-V EX AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just reattached my door jamb button because my key/headlight reminder wasn't
going off and now my car won't lock when I press the lock button on my key fob. It
unlocks my car just fine and the little IR light even shows up on my key fob when I
press the lock button, but my car doesn't respond.

This is the video I used to repair the door jamb issue:

I have the same issue, but did no work to my car at all. This problem just happened out of the blue. 2008 Honda CRV. Any solution yet?

Same identical situation here. The fob lock doesn't work now. The LED does indicate it is working. The fob unlock function is working from the remote fob use. This happens exactly the same with the second fob.

You want to double check that all your doors are closed. The next thing to check is the door sensor in each door. You can try pressing on them individually to see if the light will turn off. My solution was that my back door wasn't fully closed.

If the doors are shut, check that the truck door is completely closed. You can close the truck but if it doesn't click the locking mechanism than it is not fully closed. If objects are in the truck, then they need to provide a few inches of space at rear. The truck door is several inches thick and will be stopped from completely closing if they bump against things that are the trunk floor.

I just came back from the dealer who fixed this same problem. FIRST the advisor told me some nonsense that they know about the issue but no fix, I'll have to wait until there is a recall.. THEN the technician told me a connector was loose. This is what my invoice states.. btw, there were 2 recalls I didn't know about - a software update and a steering wheel problem (they didn't have the parts for this one yet, said by next week. Because of this one there is a STOP SALE on my car. I have a 2019 Honda CR-V Touring.. This is what the walkaway lock not beeping, lights not flashing problem was, as written on work order..... "Checked the door with HDS found the hood latch actuator was open, Diag vehicle found the connector was not connected, causing security system not to function. Reconnect connect on the hood latch actuator, open and close vehicle several times with remove, alarm system is working normal. Return vehicle to customer"

My daughter had the same issue with her 2010 CR-V. The car thought the driver's side door was still open, but it was closed. It turns out the problem was the door jam switch was broken. There is a plastic part of the switch, under the rubber cover, that depresses when the door is closed. This plastic piece wrong broken off but was still under the rubber cover. I unscrewed the switch, removed it, removed the rubber cover, and glued it together with Gorilla glue. It now works perfectly. If you need to replace the switch you can find it on Amazon. It is part number: 35400-S5A-013 Door Switch Assembly. Here is a YouTube video on how to replace it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28K6fP9TIso Good luck!

My wife just told me that the remote was not locking the car, and the dash indicated that the driver door was open. I checked it out, and then found this website. After review, I ordered a new switch off of Amazon, then went to look at the car once more. I started the car, and manually pushed the button, and discovered that It worked just fine. I inspected the door, and noticed that there were a lot of dings and dents in the door right where it should push in the button. It seems that my wife would slam the door with the seat belt buckle in between, creating one particular dent that seemed just deep enough to provide room between the door and the switch that it would no longer push the button in all the way. I had some felt pads that are normally put under furniture, put it on the door where it would push the button, and PROBLEMS SOLVED!!! Door locks with the remote, and the dash no longer shows the driver door as open.

The central locking (faulty actuator) seems to be a global problem on Honda CR-V's. Honda's exorbitant pricing of replacement parts (R4000 in South Africa for each actuator), and the way Honda-South Africa has handled this problem is rather disappointing. If Honda managed this problem in a more sensible manner both here and globally, I would certainly be encouraged to purchase another Honda product...however at this stage, this little, but rather irritating problem has put me off Honda forever.
