2010 CRV has lacking power and has loud hissing noise at 4k+ RPM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2010 CRV has developed a loud hissing noise when accelerating at 4k+
RPM and there is also a noticeable lack of power.  I'm thinking it's possibly a
clogged cat.  But It has NOT thrown a Check Engine Light.  I've scanned the
ECU with my scanner and there are no pending codes.    I had my wife rev
the engine and it definitely sounds like it's coming from the manifold/cat area.

It is a very weird situation because the engine sounds normal at idle and it
doesn't sound like it has an exhaust leak at all.  I'm assuming if the cat is
clogged then that air is probably getting forced by an exhaust gasket and
causing the hissing noise that I'm hearing.

I'm stumped, any insight would be much appreciated.

I've also uploaded 2 videos to youtube, so whoever is reading this can hear
what, I'm talking about.

Could be a clogged cat. After driving do you smell a rotten eggs suffer smell? crawl under the car after driving it , is the cat glowing red hot? Then yes, a clogged cat. A mechanic can perform a simple test to also determine if in fact it is clogged.

After driving it, I looked at the cat and it is not glowing. Also, I don't notice a smell at all.

Well here is an update, I decided to go ahead and drop the front and rear catalytic converters. Upon removing the rear converter, I noticed a lot of powdery residue. When I got the front converter out, I noticed that the honeycomb is in really bad shape. It was loose and jiggling around inside the cat. I'm assuming it was restricting exhaust flow, and eventually blew by the exhaust gasket, thus causing a hissing noise. I don't understand how this didn't throw a P0420 code. I'll upload pictures or videos if any is interested. Thanks
