2010 Dodge Avenger

Asked by Ebeeeee Oct 14, 2017 at 12:29 PM about the 2010 Dodge Avenger SXT FWD

Question type: General

Hi, I have a problem with my 2010 Dodge Avenger
and was just wondering if some one can give me an
idea of what's wrong with it?? I'm thinking my
Alternator ?? All my lights popped up on my dash
right before it dyed out, I only made it like a block
after being jumped so I'm sure it's not the battery.
Any input will help, Thxs!

Bad battery, bad alternator, bad battery cables or terminals (check for corrosion at the terminals). Take it to any auto parts store, most of them will do a free charging system test and let you know what may be wrong. If you have frayed or corroded cables, the test may be indeterminate but those problems may be detected by a visual inspection or moving cables around. Replacing cables can be costly but most of the time the problem can be fixed by clamping new terminals on or cleaning them with a baking soda solution. Don't just keep getting jump starts, have someone look at it and fix the actual problem. Good luck.

get a multi tester and check the batt. it should have 12.5 volts , if you get it started test it again , you should have at least 14 volts that means the alt. is doing it's job , scan for codes even if the light ain't on and get the definitions

Put a voltmeter on battery with car off. If you see 12.4V or higher then first test is good. Keep voltmeter on terminals and have someone else start car while you watch the voltage on battery. If the voltage goes below 10V then replace battery. Once car is running, you should see 13.5 - 14.8 volts. Next turn on 3 or 4 high drain items and make sure your voltage stays in this range. It may drop by a half volt but it should not go below 13.2V. A reading in the 12 or 15 voltage range and yes you have a bad alternator.

Did you get it fixed, because this is what mine did, but i was told the abs light, and traction control light on together was my throttle body, ill be replacing mine as soon as it gets here, i replaced my battery, it didnt help it run, just stopped it from going dead

James, I have never heard this before as an auto technician. ABS and Traction control is speed sensor related (wheel or transmission) or ABS reluctor ring, module or a wiring issue. Throttle body? I would be seeking other advice before replacing your throttle body. Get the code(s) read and pinpoint the issue before becoming a parts changer and spending unnecessary dollars.

I had the same problem for 3 mths with my 2.4 V6 2010 Dodge Avenger, kept stalling out. Toward end had to be boosted or charged. Turned out to be PCM(power train control module). New through Dodge Dealership(Alberta Canada) would’ve cost me $1900.00(cdn), however, I went through my “gently used” parts place out of Barrhead Alberta, and paid $75.00, then took it back to dealership for install and reprogramming $258.00...saved over $1600 had I done it directly through the dealership.
