2010 subaru legacy shutter

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

hey, so i just recently bought a 2010 subaru legacy from a
private seller. Has 260k on the body, engine has been
replaced with 115k on it, full paperwork. When it idles, the
car shutters slightly when the radiator fans kick on and the
rpms drop slightly. Also a few times now, only at a
complete stop. The car with shutter and turn off. I then put
it in neutral and it kicks right back to life like nothing
happened. Any thoughts as to what the issue is? Also.
Subaru dealer said my battery failed their test and plan on
replacing it in a couple days.

It is not just the body that has high miles. The whole drivetrain has a quarter millions miles on it. Maybe it needs a tuneup. I would use a good fuel system cleaner as well. The idle air control valve may need cleaning or replacement.

Buying batteries and service at a Subaru dealer is co$tly. Buy a battery at Costco instead.

The ACV is probably ok, but cleaning the throttle body can't hurt. Given iridium plugs I'd not think it's ignition, but suspect a failing CVT solenoid is causing the stalling. $700 for a new valve body and a couple hours to install. But first chase the easy stuff. ShuDDering when shocked by AC cycling is perhaps nothing.
