Dodge ram wont start

Asked by RAMITGOOD09 Apr 18, 2020 at 02:07 PM about the 2009 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie Crew Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2009 dodge ram laramie 1500 5.7
hemi, has 160,000 miles on it and have never
had any engine probelms until now, i was at a
red light and it started spuddering all the
sudden and just shut off. When i go to turn
the key to crank it, it turns over but wont
start. Strange part to me is when i let go of
the key it continues turning over like it wants
to start but wont. Almost like its out of gas or
bad fuel pump. Fuel pump is fine and it has
gas. Anybody have any idea whats going on?

But could the ignition switch cause the truck to just all the sudden sputter and shut off while I’m at a stoplight? Im not really mechanically inclined i guess you could put it. I can change my oil, brakes, and i even installed a leveling kit on the front end of my dodge, i enjoy doing this sort of stuff but its all new to me so everything i do to my truck is for the first time and a learning experience. Is an ignition switch something i can replace in my driveway? Without taking me days to do and without taking my truck apart?
