Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Lincoln MKX won’t start when engine is
warm. Starts fine after it’s been sitting for a
while. 4 mechanics have been unable to
diagnose the issue. I’ve had a tune up within
the last 3 months, battery is about 1 year old,
purge valve has been replaced and a filter(I
can’t remember which one). Please help!

Thank you for the feedback. No diagnostic codes come up when the car is hooked up to the reader. Also, when I initially took the car in I didn’t realize that it was only happening when the car was warm so when the mechanics started the car up it worked without issue. Any recommendations for narrowing down the issue since no codes are being produced?

Would love to know if you found out what the problem was! Same issues here, have taken it several times to the mechanics and everytime it cranks for them. But if I drive it to work it will not start to get back home at the end of the day.

Yes I actually did find out what was going on. I needed 1 of the 2 engine fans replaced and a new fuel pump. Car has been working great since the repair. Good luck getting your car fixed!

A Lincoln dealer refused to deal with my Mkz 2010 failure to restart since I was unable to reproduce the condition. He said he never heard of it, and I wonder why Lincoln refuses to document this, which is clearly a regular problem. I explained to the mechanic that the car had to be very hot on a very hot day, and that if he took it into the cool garage and waited with the hood up, it would start working again. After that, a non-Lincoln mechanic reasoned that, because there was no click when I attempted to start, that it might be a defective ignition relay that failed to send an impulse to the starter. I got the same Lincoln dealer, different mechanic, to replace the relay, and it didn't matter, so money spent on nothing. I am willing to try your solution, but I don't understand why it works. Do the new fans blow better, and also after shutoff? And if the fans are cooling a part that doesn't work when hot, what is the part? I don't see why the fuel pump would have anything to do with it, if the engine doesnt' crank at all.
