"Service Power Steering" warning. Now, whole car wont power up. Key stuck in Ignition

Asked by Greggy7616 Nov 14, 2019 at 04:50 PM about the 2009 Cadillac CTS 3.6L RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I decided to replace most of the Power steering fluid on my 2009 CTS to start. After doing this, I took for test drive to get steering motion. While doing this, service power steering warning came on again. I took around some street corners. Suddenly, many other warnings came on. I was lucky to get back into my garage when all went dead. It wont crank and I cant take keys out of ignition. I am not sure what to do next. Can some others make successful suggestions?  I only have less than 75 K miles on it.

Before I totally forget, Thanks all in your efforts to help me out. It was indeed the alternator. It caused all kinds of malfunctions. Happy New Year to all too!

I have a 2009 Cadillac CTS and I have the same issues with my car...starting with the power steering. I added fluid then drove around to get it worked in then I had multiple service warnings pop up...e.g. Service Power Steering, Service Traction Control, Service Stabilitrak, Service ABS, Service Tire Monitor System. Followed by Power Savor Mode which started shutting the majority of my electrical down including my headlights. I was barely able to pull out front of my house when it completely died. Even the key switch was stuck in the on position and would not turn back to the off position. Since I have tested the battery, starter, and I haven't tested the alternator because I dont think the issue has anything to do with the problems I am having. I have also tested all the fuses as well and resetting the computer with no success. Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated.

It was my alternator. All was like new upon replacement. Take the car to an Auto Zone or other testing area. Hope it helps.
