Battery Light

Asked by Bob Nov 03, 2016 at 12:02 AM about the 2008 Ford F-150 XL SuperCrew SB

Question type: General

I had the battery light come on my F-150, , I have put a brand new battery
in and all is fine. However, the battery indicator light has come on just for a
quick moment today and cleared when I accelerated.

I spoke to the NAPA team and they stated it might be a stored code that did
not clear ?

Just gonna tell you, while the engine is running the battery light will only come in for an alternator problem.

I replaced my alternator when my battery light came on. 6 months later the battery light came back on and I replaced the alternator again. 4 months later the battery light comes back on alerting every 2-3 mins. I resolved the issue by replacing the Alternator Harness Connector Plug 3 Wire Pigtail. I guess he clip broke while replacing the alternator and it would vibrate itself lose. It was an $8 repair.

Alright all you cool cats and kittens. My battery light turned on coming home from work. When I accelerated, the light turned off. Eventually, one by one all my electrical went out. Even the dash, all gauges, went off. As my headlights started to dim, I turned on my high beams which drew power from the engine and bogged down the RPM. I pulled into a parking spot and as soon as the engine went to idle, the truck shut off. All signs point to alternator, right? Today I put in a new alternator. And, for shnitz and giggles, I tried to start my truck without ever charging the battery. The truck started no problem, again, I never charged the battery from last night. I let the truck idle for a few minutes and the battery light is coming back on. Any ideas???

Same thing happened to me in my 05 4.6 f150. Changed the battery and alternator, light still comes on. Guessing it’s a stored code, wiring, or a ground issue.

On my 2001 F-150, I have changed out the battery and alternator, and serpentine since I had it off, anyway. Batter light stays on. Battery Voltage gauge is at about 75% to the top. With engine off, I’m getting 12.4 volts at the battery. After starting, I’m getting 14.4 volts at idle, at 1500 Rpm, about the same. Under load with high beams and radio,almost-identical. 14.45 And still the battery light stays on. Checked ODBC codes and saw nothing. So I am stymied. All appearances say my charging system is working, except the battery light. Any idea what else is triggering that light?

battery light has been going on for last three weeks....had it checked last oil change and they said battery is fine. Light still goes on and just lately the heat/Ac goes on and off like it's possessed. And now this morning everything was dead. 2011 F-150. ??

I've sorted through all the comments, trying to narrow down my problem. F150, 2006 (new to me, so I don't know its history). It was parked for a few weeks, and when I started it (no problem), the light was on. I figured if I ran it for a while, the alternator would recharge the battery, but no go, and I lost my power steering. If you can help me narrow this down so that I can go into a shop with some ideas, that'd be great, because as a woman, if i go in and shrug my shoulders and say, "I don't have a clue," they'll take me to the cleaners.

Same issues with my 2010 f150. Losing power while pulling a trailer too. I’m at a loss.

I think it's funny we all rely on what others have done throughout the forums instead of doing raw true diagnostics. I just got done with yet another one of these problems.. (yes multiple instances of battery light on after replacing everything.. and I'm the tail end diagnostic troubleshooter.) Folks.. is your battery ground to chassis reading less than 1 ohm? Just had this truck reading 60 ohms from the battery post to chassis.. unacceptable. Then.. what is the voltage drop from the battery post to that actual input of the lug from the battery? Is it less than .5 VDC? HAD another truck dropping 4v at the fuse block because of a corroded lug. Ford have a nasty habit of not taking care of the battery terminals which will always throw the charging system thru a loop. A lot of times its these simple connections but we throw $$$ thinking that's the issue because some forum says so...
