I just replaced the alternator and
battery both are brand new but
battery light still comes on and goes
off what does that mean

You need to reset your warning light for your battery. There should be a series of engine key turns along with brake or something of that nature but car has to be key turned forward and not on and put in neutral generally all depends on your car. There might be a system reset button you could just hold in as well when your battery light is appearing where your odometer usually reads. Look in manual under resetting warning lights.
