Changing PCV Valve on 2008 Equinox 3.4L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2008 Chevy Equinox has 222,000 Kms on it and I thought it might be a good idea to change the PCV valve. After doing some research I learned from others who had attempted the job that a metal bracket holds the PCV valve onto the valve cover and a couple of rivets have to be removed to take off the bracket and pull out the valve. However, when I looked at my valve it's completely different. Seems to have a black plastic locking cover over the whole valve and I can't see how to remove it. (Hope there is a photo attached.) Anyone have any idea how one goes about removing this? Also the PCV valve itself doesn't appear to match the Fram FV299 which is listed as the replacement for this car.

Thanks for replying Jim. I'm not sure where exactly the two tabs are you're referring to? I originally tried attaching two photos but only one uploaded. I'm attaching the second one here which shows the back side of the assembly reflected in a mirror. You can see the metal flange of the PCV valve is visible. The flange is much thicker than the FV299 and from what I can see there isn't a rubber bushing in the valve cover to push it through. However, if I can get that cover off I'll be able to see much better.

Do not see an answer to your problem. My 2008 Pontiac Torrent 3.4 is exactly the same. I haven't figured it out yet either. Did you ever get it out?

No I never did find out how to remove it. I no longer have the car now. Sorry I can't help.

Found out that the tube cover is like a quick connect. Press in on the grey tab and the tube cover comes off. Unfortunately the pcv valve is pressed into the valve cover and external removal doesn't seem possible.

Too easy! It looked much more complicated than that. Glad you found how to remove it. A shame it's pressed in and not threaded but at least you can probably spray some carb cleaner into the valve.
