luctuating coolant temp gauge from normal to hot

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Fan   cuts  in when  in park or  stopped..  No hot air  from  heater  only  cold...
and  engine  seems to be  getting overheated...      Alternator? Coolant  
Sensor?   Blockage or air pocket in coolant fluid?

Most likely it is getting hot. There's 2 different temperature sensors. one turns on cooling fans and the other one feeds the temperature gauge. I would start by replacing the thermostat and verify that coolant is circulating through the radiator. You mentioned heater blows cold air, that indicates to me the thermostat is not opening.
