Can someone tell me what the differences are in the twin turbo v6 avant s4 and the audi allroad?  Why shoud I buy an s4 when i can get a twin turbo allroad wagon? I'm very curious!  Can someone help me out.  An 04 allroad goes for approx 7500-12000 usd. An s4 avant (if you find one can go from 13000 - 27000 usd. Help me to understand the difference please.  Thanks guys

The most basic difference is the chassis (platform) that the cars are based upon. The S4 is based on the A4 chassis while the AllRoad is based on the A6 Avant chassis. The AllRoad also features air suspension with height adjustment. The S4 is more of a road-going car while the AllRoad is more of a precursor to the Q5 or SUV-like vehicle.

Joe is absolutely correct. The S4 is much sportier with a lower center of gravity. The A-6/air suspension combination offer ability to handle more difficult terrain at the expense of weight and the "fun to drive" quotient. Both are good vehicles but are designed for different uses.

well, they are basically the same. The Allroad is slightly larger in size but not really much in the interior. the motor is going to have the same problems but the allroad doesn't come with the manual option. allroad is slightly heavier so if you are looking for speed it feels more like solid power than the S4's vomit inducing pickup. The allroad also has the adjustable air ride suspension so if you live in a really snowy area you can lift it a few inches with the turn of a knob... that is if the air ride still works...

The allroad has a higher suspension and is more of a an outdoor crossover for audi, performance not too much different unless you are going to the track with it, s is a sportier suspension and manual, allroad is more of a traveling car and the the s is more of a sports car.

Old questions, but for those searching and finding this the Allroad comes in a manual 6 speed, but they are rare. You can tune an Allroad just like an s4. Both the S4 and Allroad is 2.7t engines are leaky...meaning they have lots of issues with valve covers, cam seals and caps, as well as chain tensioner seals.
