Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2007 Ford Escape Hybrid with 150K miles.  Lately the vehicle intermittedly will not let me shift out of park.  Turn it on and off several times, pushing on brake, nothing seems to work until it feels like it.  The button on the shifter will not push-in.

Already replaced shifter handle. Then go figure, the owners manual had a whole page on this issue. It appears that the shifter has a brake control interlock. I knew you had to hold the brake pedal in, but did not realize it will not shift out of park with a brake light out or a blown brake light fuse. There is a small 3/8" diameter plug on the console next to the shifter, you can remove this plug and push on the button below to release the interlock. This allows you to drive the car until you can get it fixed. Hope this helps others out there.
