Over heating problems

Asked by Flipper2016 Feb 17, 2016 at 11:10 PM about the 2004 Acura TL FWD with Navigation

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I just replaced my thermostat yesterday
and was able to drive about 50 miles
perfectly then the temp began to spike
back up. I've read that it's normal for it to
do this while it regulates to the engine but
the gage is going up about 3/4 to hot. I had
a leak at one point a few months ago and
fixed it then after no progression I figured it
was the thermostat. I seem to keep finding
the right problem and it fixes for about 100
miles then back to the over heating. I will
say I need an oil change but other than that
I can't figure out nor afford any other
issues. Please help

If you recently replaced the t-stat - flush your radiator to ensure no soot build up or obstructions are present - if that doesn't help it may be your water pump

Good Evening Flipper-I would think that if you have replaced the thermostat, I would next tackle the water pump, and would have the car diagnosed for a blown head gasket. The other issue could be the leak however, unless it is losing a ton of coolant I wouldn't thats the problem. Ill keep an eye on this thread to look for your reply. Best of luck!

flush the system and clean the radiator, if the problem is still there replace water pump

I'd say that you didn't purge the air out of the cooling system when you refilled it.
