2004 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS

Asked by Marauder_1249 Mar 09, 2017 at 12:29 AM about the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Vehicle stopped running and gave codes 1159,
0300, 0301 & 0305.  Replaced the VIM, plugs, wires
and cleaned the throttle body and the 0301 & 0305
codes no longer showed but the 1159 and 0300
remain. The vehicle still does not start, still cranks
but will not start. Any idea what else could be
remaining problems?

There is a service bulletin on the po300 code, www.autocodes.com/uploads/hyundai/09-EM-002.pdf Also the p1159 code I would suggest looking on you tube to see how it is fixed...P1159 HYUNDAI - Variable Intake Motor Malfunction...Possible causes; Faulty Variable Intake Motor, Variable Intake Motor harness is open or shorted, Variable Intake Motor circuit poor electrical connection...P1159 HYUNDAI Description Variable Intake System (VIS) is used to increase torque at lower rpm and increase horsepower at higher rpm. Sigma 3.5ℓ engine has two intake runners for each cylinder. The primary intake runner is a long, thin tube in which the intake air passes through. This allows a strong stream of air to blast into the cylinder, helping low-end torque. The secondary intake runner is a short, fat tube. This allows a large volume of air to be sucked into the engine, increasing high-end horsepower. At lower rpm range, the engine does not provide enough suction into the cylinders, starving the engine of much needed oxygen. The skinny tube helps blast the air into the cylinder for more oxygen. At higher rpm, the engine has plenty of suction but the intake runner is too small to provide the oxygen it needs. Like I said, check on you tube on this code.
