Brake peddlle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This is so weird, usally when I'm going slow and tap the brakes I hear a sound I can only describe as a "crunch" sound, I just recently replaced back brakes and rotors that were pretty bad thought that was causing it but it still happens.  HELP!!!

I was told they were good when I recently got new tires but not sure how well they checked them out

I would get the front end up on jack stands and run the tires in the air and hit the brakes. Try to have a buddy listen and see if you can recreate the issue. If the crunch is coming from the front, I would start tearing it down and inspecting it. If no noise while in the air, it may be something like a bad wheel bearing or CV joint. Check the boots for splits.

Could be a cracked sensor or sensor ring on the abs brakes making them kick in, that usually sounds like a grinding noise.

You are welcome! In the future, if you post, you should be sure to give as many details as possible because it helps give you the best answer. I had several of my own cars with the same problem and it is actually very common, but a lot of people haven't run across it.

If you have drum brakes the plate that is in back were the bakes sit on might be bent and it is pushing the brake shoes out of place it happen to me after a few potholes the plate is loose or bent i replaced the plate no more crunching sounds
