Should I get a new timing belt for my 2004 Elantra?

I bought a 2004 Hyundai Elantra GT for
$500. I know how important a timing belt
maintenance is, but the truth is I already
spent about another $500 on repairs just to
make it safer and easier to drive. (Rear
brakes, wheel bearing replacement, and 4-
wheel alignment) But the timing belt
already has 115,000+ kms on it, the
previous owner said Hyundai suggested
replacing it every 100,000 kms. Should I
just sell the car and look for something
with a timing chain? Or would the timing
belt replacement (costing $579) be the
better decision?

Basically your looking a $1500-1600 in it after a timing belt which I think if you do your homework and stop paying dealership prices you can get the timing belt done for $350 on the high side. If the rest of the car is in good shape I would do the belt and btw if you read the repair book and watched some youtube videos you could likely do the belt yourself. No reason to have bought the car to do the work and bought it cheap too and then let someone take it off your hands so they can do the belt. Do the belt. If its not smoking, knocking, overheating or been wrecked with a salvage/rebuild title.

Get the belt replaced. I do not think replacing the belt is a good do it yourself job. It is too easy to get it wrong and cause engine damage.
