Anti theft activated

Asked by CraigCopper Apr 20, 2021 at 03:05 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Someone tried to steall my 5.3l 2000
Chevy Tahoe and broke the column. Since
then I believe the anti theft has been
activated and won't start. I tried to get
someone to fix it and they changed the
ignition cylinder but it looks like they cut
several wirea trying to deactivate the anti
theft. If I purchase a new ignition cylinder
with a key and reattach the wires, will it
start?

there's a transponder in the column that gets a signal from the key to tell the ECM to allow the car to start . Any key you get will have to be programed and seeing as your entire column is botched it looks like you're going to the dealer to have this straightened out . I doubt car thieves are interested in your 20 year old P.O.S. and you should probably choose your friends more wisely .

No it won't start. Agree with what beatupchevy said. This is a (expensive) job for your local Chevrolet Dealer. Sorry! Jim
