Brake lights

Asked by GuruBZ3BP Dec 10, 2018 at 01:17 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replaced third brake light. All brake lights and third
brake light work as should with headlights off.
When headlights are turned on the third brake light
is on and brake lights seem to be slightly on. Brake
lights only get little bit brighter when the brake
pedal is pushed. Is it the brake pedal switch
possibly? I had replaced third brake light before
and all was fine. This time the third light stays on
with headlights on. Works normal with headlights
off. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

First check the ground to the tail lights, do this remove a tail light bulb and socket, you can see a bit of the brass bulb base sticking out of the socket, use a jumper wire connect one end to a good ground then touch the other end to the bulb base. If the problem goes away repair or replace the ground wire. The less likely problem would be a tail light wire shorted into the brake light wire. I hope this helps.
