Dash and door locks

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2003 Chevy Tahoe and the battery died. I tried to start it and it almost
turned over but then the starter started clicking because the battery didnt
have enough power. Now several random things stopped working. The dash
gauges (Oil, temp, fuel and voltage only) stopped working. They all show
zero. The speedometer, tachometer and odometer still work. The small
indicator that shows what gear you are in stopped working. All the door locks
and window controls stopped working. None of the buttons on any of the
doors work any longer. Including the mirror control, power windows, power
door locks. I had my stereo shop check all the fuses and they are all fine. And
I had a load test done on the alternator and it checks out fine. The Auto parts
store does a free check engine light check and they could not get their
checker to communicate with the ECU. Anyone have any ideas?

The battery is new and I had the battery checked yesterday. Its functioning fine. The reason It was low is I only drive it once every 3 weeks or so. Once I jumped it, it drove fine but without the functionality that I described above. Battery was fully charged and started my truck at several stops in town.

Disconnect battery for 2 min and reconnect should work fine after that

2003 Tahoe if you let it sit for one day it will not crank and gauges don’t work when you get it started. I disconnect the battery and start over and it works. What is the problem?

I am having the same problem with a 2005 Tahoe ever figure out what the problem was

Well through trial and error the way it fixed itself was to let the battery go dead again and when I recharged it it just started working. So I think the computer just glitched because it was so low and didnt have enough voltage for the computer to start properly. So bottom line is disconnect the battery and let the system drain of power. Then reconnect and hopefully it will just come back normally. Nothing else I found out online or through phone calls seemed to help. They just wanted me to replace the computer. Good Luck. Post here if what I wrote here works.

Nope. You said "Get a new battery, install it properly with a memory saver, and all those troubles should vanish." The key element in this was to remove all power from the system and then let the computer reboot. Trying over and over to recharge the battery when it was at a low voltage did nothing. Also my battery was perfectly fine and is still in the truck and working great. Since that incident it has happened 2 additional times and all I did was unhook the battery and let the computer go dead and like magic when I started the truck back up the dash and all lights worked perfectly.
