Get the trouble codes scanned. Can be anything from knock sensor to ???, not enough info to go on. Laggy performance and engine shutdown does smack of bad timing, tripping the knock sensor.

Engine goes into shutdown mode when driving down the freeway. Allowing only to drive a speed of 40 or 45. Pull over turn off and then restart and go another 10 pr so minutes and then does it again. Has been doing this along time. No one can seem to figure out why. Replaced several items but still does it. Very frustrating. Replaced the entire throttle body and that didn't fix it either.

It could be a number of issues, try and get the codes scanned, any parts store can do that for free. (or you can buy an OBD scanner for around $40 and do it yourself). It can be anything from a clogged fuel filter to bad catalytic converter to a host of fuel delivery problems or the knock sensor responding to some condition and shutting the motor off. How many miles on the engine and what condition is the throttle body in?
