Removing MAF to install performance cone filter

Asked by Vonbarley Jun 16, 2017 at 02:46 PM about the 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited Wagon AWD

Question type: Car Customization

Hey guys, I have a 2006 Subaru Legacy (non-turbo)
that I am looking to install a performance cold air
cone filter on, instead of the factory box filter.
However the MAF Is attached to the factory air box,
so switching them out would mean I would have to
dismantle the MAF. I'm wondering if this is not ideal
to do, or if in me doing so I will do any long term
damage to the car. Please help me out, thanks!

If you are looking for more HP this modification will not produce much extra power so I would skip it.

Removing the MAF would be idiotic, so don't do it. Even if you insert the OE MAF into your CAI plumbing you'll screw it up as its temperature-mass conversion won't be the same. And as FOR stated, NO CAI ever did anything for the non-turbo Subies. Even the 6 cyl.... What the '06 Leg Sedan needs is a power seat (grab one from an OB and wire it in easily) and an upgrade to 17" wheels with 205-/50VR17. Or even 55's is you want more ground clearance for free. You might as well run cheap iridiums too as this is your last tuneup. Don't even bother with a K&N filter either...waste of money for you app.
